This week was all about letting myself chill and have some fun. It involved surf music, pivots when old thought patterns tried to creep in and sabotage me and playing. I hope reading it feels as light as a it felt living it.
1. Saying "change" when a negative thought or emotion starts to creep up.
Another technique gained from Dr. Joe Dispenza, and this one I am committed to for life. As soon as I catch myself thinking a thought that's negative, out of my control, or makes me feel bad, I say "change," silently (or out loud). It's a literal cue to get me out of the headspace that brings me to all the bad places I'm so used to going to a new, positive one that I get to choose.
2. Chocolate-y smoothies.
Something I've been about for a long time, but just kinda forgot and fell off making them. Seriously though, you can have health and antioxidants and protein simply by adding pure cacao powder or a sugar-free chocolate protein powder to any smoothie. I swear it's amazing with nearly every fruit too (berries, bananas, dates, etc.) - just UGH, delish. Try my favorite anti-inflammatory, antioxidant-rich Choco-Tahini Smoothie inside the Mu Membership.
3. Terra cotta nails.
Just got my nails painted this lovely soft, warm terra cotta color and I am loving it. It somehow goes with everything, is neutral, warm, yet still colorful and pairs so nicely with all my gold jewelry. It's so perfect for fall, but honestly, I could see myself coming back to this one again and again.
4. Neocell collagen + biotin liquid.
I got this baby at Costco and was honestly kinda dumbfounded that this was the first supplement I'd seen with BOTH collagen and biotin - like, duh. As my hair has been falling out due to stress and anemia, I'm trying it all. Stay tuned, but seems lit.
5. Paintball.
I've been wanting to go paintballing for YEARS and for my cousin's birthday, it finally happened. The fact that you're outside hiding behind bunkers and actually getting shot at by explosive pellets that legit hurt had my adrenaline pumping so hard (and you know I'm an adrenaline junkie). I see this being a much more regular activity with friends. I love spending time with people in unexpected ways doing new things. I'm so excited.
6. Going to bed early on Saturday nights.
I slept 3 hours on Friday night dancing into the wee hours and then paintballing in the morning, so don't pat me on the back too hard. I was so tired Saturday night that Sean and I collapsed on top of each other on the couch at 5:30 and slept until 7 only to slither into bed and get 14 hours of sleep through Sunday morning. It felt so good to wake up early, rested and ready to enjoy Sunday completely.
7. Sharing an indulgent treat with a loved one.
The best thing about good things is sharing them with others. Okay, sure, it'd prob be more fun to have your own cookie or pizza, but if you share it with a friend, everybody wins (including all the dimensions of you that I'm counting as people themselves haha). This may sound so obvious, but I feel like it's worth sharing. I love a sweet treat, I love some indulgent snacks - this way I get my social nourishment and the yummies all in one.
8. Beanies.
I found this Herschel beanie for $8 at Marshall's the other night and it felt like a second skin I didn't even know I needed. I'm a cold girl - always. And I love the casual edgy, skater, surf look. But the weirdest thing that happened is that I put this thing on and immediately felt a kind of security I haven't felt in months. It kinda makes me feel like one of those kids that need a string to play with in elementary school or something, but for now, I simply do not care. Catch me in my beanie errwhere.
9. Impromptu games.
I've shared this before, but I've been guilty of putting "doing" wayyyyy before "being." This wonky prioritization system had me living in such a state of urgency, I felt like I was missing all the beauty, fun and enjoyment of life. This weekend was jam-packed, but I made sure I pushed myself out of the single-minded focus type of actions and stopped to smell the roses and play. While running errands, I stopped to play jenga in a square, play hide and go seek at a department store, frolic in a parking lot and be spontaneous with places and things I felt drawn to. This made even the most mundane activities my favorite moments of the week. And hey, I still got tons done.
10. Surf music.
Best Coast, The Cure, The Strokes, The Drums. This has been the viiiiibe lately. Start your day with this song and see what happens.
11. Loving people completely.
As they are for all that they are. It feels really, really good.
