How to Find Yourself

meditation May 28, 2020

This lesson is told through story.

The other week, I had a session with a client who told me he wanted to "find himself." I nodded and assured him he wasn't alone. This in fact, is one of the key subject lines I receive in my inbox. We sculpted our time together around exploring this concept: asking questions, going into meditation, and giving him space to simply be with himself - the guy he wanted to find.

At the end of the session I asked him to write this question down: "who am I?"

"Don't overthink it," I said. "Who are you?"

He wrote down three simple items:

  1. Outgoing.

  2. Athletic.

A smile beamed across my face because he seemed shy. I too, always knew that my truest self, underneath all my hiding and shyness, was outgoing too. I also imagined this young man as a boy running athletically, joyfully, and freely before the world became serious and responsibilities grabbed ahold of him.

"I don't know how to explain the last one," he fumbled with the words for a moment before he shared it. "Just nature," he said.

3. Nature.

His truest essence: nature. Talk about 'woke.' This was just day one. One single, conscious, uninterrupted reflection. When was the last time you did that?

When was the last time you remembered who you are?

To find yourself, you must be with yourself. We can run, but we can't hide. Your truth is waiting to be recognized. You know who are.

So I ask you: who are you?

Who were you before the world cloaked and coated you?

How can you come back to that?

Do you think that aligning with that self would allow you to truly love who you are?

Because it's real?

Explore your truth deeper in my fresh e-course: Self-Love School.

Meet yourself there.

With love,

Kama
